About

Stanford University Mathematics Camp (SUMaC) is an intensive summer program in advanced mathematics for high school students in 10th or 11th grade, offered by Stanford Pre-Collegiate Studies. Through lectures, guided research and group problem solving, participants study proof-based mathematics such as abstract algebra and number theory or algebraic topology, and finish with a final research project presentation. Courses carry no credit or grades, and students should expect a heavy, college-level workload. SUMaC comes in two formats with the same academic rigor. In 2026, the online program ran in two three-week sessions, June 15 to July 3 and July 6 to July 24, meeting on weekdays in a morning or evening Pacific Time slot, with room for 64 students. The residential program on Stanford's campus ran for four weeks, June 21 to July 17, 2026, for 40 students and included weekend field trips. Tuition for 2026 was $3,750 online and $8,950 residential, and residential tuition covered housing, meals and field trips. Need-based financial aid is open to both U.S. and international students and does not affect admission decisions.

Requirements

Applicants must be in grade 10 or 11 when they apply and at least 15 years old during the program; the residential option is only for students who will be under 18. Students should already read and write proofs and have strong algebra and geometry. The application includes transcripts, one math teacher recommendation, essays and a take-home admission exam of proof problems. Applications for 2026 were due February 2, 2026.
