About
The Carl B. & Florence E. King Foundation High School Summer Program in Biomedical Sciences is a paid summer research program at MD Anderson Cancer Center for Texas high school seniors interested in allied health careers. It is sponsored by MD Anderson's School of Health Professions. Up to six students are selected. Participants spend ten weeks working on a research project in a biomedical field with a full-time faculty mentor, in the lab five days a week from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. They also attend faculty seminars and give a final presentation. The 2026 program ran June 1 to August 7 in Houston, Texas. Participants in 2026 received a $7,200 stipend for ten weeks, before taxes. Students must arrange their own housing and transportation.
Requirements
Applicants must be at least 18 by the program start date and enrolled as seniors at a Texas public, private, charter or home school. They must also be accepted to a college or university for the fall semester right after the program and must attend the full program. U.S. citizens, permanent residents and work-eligible visa holders can apply. Prior lab or research experience is not required, and preference goes to students pursuing allied health careers. Applications are judged on academics, leadership, scientific aptitude, service and interest in allied health. Applications for 2026 closed January 14, 2026, and details for the 2027 program are expected in October.
