About

The Moran Ecoteen Summer Volunteer Program is a summer volunteer program at the Houston Museum of Natural Science (HMNS) for high school students entering 9th through 11th grade. It is the museum's largest high school volunteer program, and it is funded by The W.T. and Louise J. Moran Foundation. Most of an Ecoteen's time is spent in the museum's Summer Camps @ HMNS program, where volunteers help teachers and work directly with young campers in summer science classes. Some Ecoteens also receive training to give presentations in the exhibit halls, using museum specimens and artifacts to engage visitors of all ages. Along the way, volunteers interact with museum staff and the public. First-year Ecoteens commit to volunteering for one two-week session during the summer. The program takes place in person at the museum in Hermann Park, Houston, Texas. Participants build skills that can strengthen future resumes, applications and careers, and they get to know other teens who share interests in different areas of natural science. The museum's program page does not list specific session dates for a given year or any participation fee, so students should check with HMNS for current details.
