About
The University of Wyoming Engineering Summer Program (ESP) is a one-week, residential engineering camp for high school juniors. It takes place on the UW campus in Laramie, Wyoming. Students work one-on-one with faculty members and advanced students on hands-on projects across different engineering fields. Past activities have included building a digital circuit, tackling an environmental problem, programming a robotic device, and designing timber trusses. Participants live in the university residence halls and eat in a campus dining center, giving them a taste of college life. Only 36 students are selected each year. The 2026 program ran June 7 to 13, 2026, from Sunday evening through Saturday morning. The 2026 cost was $350 per student, with remaining costs covered by the College of Engineering and Physical Sciences and its sponsors.
Requirements
The program is open to high school juniors from Wyoming and from out of state, and students with any career interest are encouraged to apply. To apply, students submitted an online application with a one-page essay about their interest in engineering and why they want to attend, plus a high school transcript. For 2026, applications opened January 1 and closed April 30, 2026.
