About
The University of Wyoming Summer High School Institute (HSI) is a three-week residential pre-college camp for current Wyoming high school sophomores. The 2027 program runs June 6 to June 26, 2027, on the UW campus. Participants live in the residence halls for the full 20 days and take college-level classes. The classes have no homework, tests, or grades, and they do not earn college credit. Up to 75 students are selected each year through a joint effort between Wyoming high schools and the university. Room, board, and instructional supplies are paid for with state funds, but there is a $325 activity fee. Students cover their own travel to and from camp and personal expenses.
Requirements
Students must be in 10th grade at a Wyoming public or private high school or be homeschooled, live in Wyoming, plan to return to a Wyoming school the next term, and commit to staying for all three weeks. Applications for HSI 2027 open October 1, 2026. Applicants submit a personal statement, either an essay of at least 300 words or a video up to 4 minutes long, plus a list of awards and activities and a letter of recommendation. A school counselor uploads the transcript. All application pieces are due February 7, 2027.
