About
The University of Wyoming Upward Bound Math Science (UBMS) Summer Program is a free, five-week residential college experience in Laramie for Wyoming high school students enrolled in UW's Upward Bound or Upward Bound Math Science program. Upward Bound and UBMS are federal TRIO programs funded by the U.S. Department of Education. During the summer, participants live in the UW dorms, eat at the campus dining center, and take English, literature, science, math, foreign language, and college prep classes. Each student also joins a science mentorship course and completes a research project, which they present at a symposium on the final day. Books, supplies, meals, housing, activities, and stipends are all covered. The 2025 session ran June 1 to July 3, 2025. During the school year, members get weekly tutoring at their high school, ACT prep, college tours, and help with college and scholarship applications.
Requirements
Students must be enrolled in University of Wyoming Upward Bound or Upward Bound Math Science and be in grades 9 through 12 the following September. Upward Bound and UBMS serve students who are income eligible, would be the first in their family to earn a four-year degree, or both. Students must also be U.S. citizens, permanent residents, or able to verify intent to become one, plan to pursue a four-year degree, and attend high school in Albany, Fremont, Laramie, Natrona, Converse, Big Horn, or Johnson county, Wyoming. Accepted students attend weekly sessions and mandatory summer sessions throughout high school. To join, students request an application, then submit a form with a parent or guardian, a letter of recommendation, and an official report card. Spaces are limited, so early applications are encouraged.
