About
The Sandia National Laboratories Student Intern Program offers paid internships to students from their last years of high school through PhD study. Interns work on real projects in technical and business roles at Sandia, a national security research lab. Openings are at Sandia's sites in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Livermore, California, and recent postings include positions labeled for high school technical interns. Summer internships usually last 10 to 12 weeks, running from May to late August, with up to 40 hours of work per week. Year-round internships let students at nearby schools work part time, with high school students capped at 25 hours a week during the school term. Interns are paid an hourly wage, and high school interns typically earn a set rate.
Requirements
Applicants must be at least 16 years old and enrolled full time at an accredited high school, college, or university; summer interns must be full time in the spring term before the internship. High school students need a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 for research, technical, or business positions, or 2.5 for clerical or laborer positions. U.S. citizenship is required for any role that needs a security clearance or when a posting says so. New hires must also pass a background review and drug screening. Students apply to each posting separately through Sandia's online careers portal.
