Berkeley Lab K-12 - Experiences in Research

Experiences in Research (EinR) is a paid summer internship at Berkeley Lab for high school students in Northern California who want hands-on experience in STEM careers. Interns spend six weeks working on real projects alongside Berkeley Lab staff. Project areas include administration and communication, coding, data science, and experimental research and data collection. The 2026 internship ran June 15 to July 24, 2026, and projects were hybrid or virtual depending on the office. Interns work about 30 to 35 hours a week and are paid $500 per week.

Open to current 10th, 11th and 12th graders enrolled in Northern California who have experience working independently. Applicants must also meet a minimum age of 16, and students have to satisfy both the age and grade rules. All Northern California applicants are reviewed, but students living within 30 miles of the lab get priority. Former interns cannot apply again. To apply, read the project booklet, choose your top three projects, and submit an online application; Oakland Unified students also complete the ECCCO common application.
