About
Partners in Education Job Readiness Training & Internships is a free career program for public high school students in Santa Barbara County, California, ages 15 to 18. It is run by Santa Barbara Partners in Education, a nonprofit administered by the Santa Barbara County Education Office. Students first complete an 8-week job readiness training made up of weekly 1-hour workshops, held partly in person and partly online. Training sessions run in the fall (September to November), spring (February to April), and summer (May to June). Workshops cover resume building, financial literacy, networking, career exploration, interview skills, and professional communication, and each student works with a career coach. Participants can earn a stipend during training. After finishing the training, students become eligible for paid internships at minimum wage. Staff try to match interns with placements in their field of interest, and some spots are set aside for students interested in the energy sector.
Requirements
Open to Santa Barbara County public high school students ages 15-18. Training requires a commitment to weekly 1-hour workshops (in person and virtual) for 8 weeks. The training stipend requires a W9 and a Social Security card or TIN; students who do not qualify for the stipend may still take part in the training. Paid internships require completing the training; interns must hold a current work permit, show employment eligibility with photo ID and a Social Security card, and commit to at least 10 hours a week for 80 hours total. The application is currently listed as closed.
