About
Applied Research Innovations in Science and Engineering (ARISE) is a free summer research program at NYU Tandon School of Engineering for New York City high school students entering their junior or senior year. ARISE lasts 10 weeks. The first four weeks cover safety training, college writing workshops and research skills. During the last six weeks, students work in NYU research labs alongside faculty and researchers on real projects. The 2026 program ran from June 1 to August 14, 2026, with remote workshops in June and in-person lab work in Brooklyn starting July 6. Participants present their work at an end-of-program colloquium and at a poster symposium at the American Museum of Natural History. The program has no cost thanks to funding from the Pinkerton Foundation, and students who complete it receive a $2,000 stipend. ARISE also offers group and one-on-one help with college applications.
Requirements
Open to rising high school juniors and seniors who are full-time New York City residents and attend NYC schools. Students must commit to the full 10-week summer program. Apply online; a recommendation letter is optional, and selection includes group interviews. In the 2026 cycle, applications opened in January and were due February 27, 2026.
