About

Mini-Vet School is an evening lecture series run by the Niagara Frontier Veterinary Society for anyone ages 14 and up, including high school students curious about veterinary medicine. Over five weeks, veterinarians from Western New York teach short courses modeled on subjects covered in veterinary school. Each evening includes two lectures on the causes and treatment of common pet conditions, along with newer developments in animal medicine. Some sessions are interactive, so participants are encouraged to bring a smartphone or tablet. The 2026 series met on Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on September 29 and October 6, 13, 20 and 27. Classes take place in Schenck Hall, room 107, at Daemen University in Amherst, New York. The series is limited to 250 people. In 2026 the full series cost $70, with a reduced $50 rate for students and seniors, and single class nights were $25 each. Optional printed materials could be bought for $10 at class. Everyone who completes the program receives a certificate, though it does not qualify anyone to practice veterinary medicine.

Requirements

Open to ages 14 and up. There is no application, but registration is required, and participants sign up online through the society's ticketing page. No registration deadline was posted for 2026.
