About
The City of New Haven Student Intern Program is a city government internship in New Haven, Connecticut, for high school, college and university students who are at least 16 years old. Interns work inside city departments on project-based assignments tied to their academic program or career goals. Each internship has defined learning objectives, a set start and end date, and regular check-ins with a supervisor. The work is not meant to be mostly clerical or administrative. Internships are approved one semester at a time, which means a period of up to four months, and any extension needs agreement from the department and the city.
Requirements
Must be at least 16 when applying and currently enrolled at an accredited high school, college or university. Interns aged 18 or older must pass a background check and a drug screening before starting. Applications go through the city's online job portal, and openings appear under Student Intern Opportunities only during posting periods. The posting is not open year-round, so students should check the city's employment listings regularly. Applicants attach a current transcript and a resume, and list contact details for an academic advisor or internship coordinator.
