About
Yale Summer Session (YSS) lets high school juniors and seniors take Yale College courses for credit during the summer, in the same classes as college students. In 2026, Session A ran May 25 to June 26 and Session B ran June 29 to July 31. Full-time students take two credits per session, either two in-person courses in New Haven or one in-person course and one online course. Students taking in-person courses must live on campus unless they live within commuting distance, and residents under 18 are housed separately with curfews. For 2026, tuition was $5,480 for a standard one-credit course. Residential students also paid $4,380 for room and board, plus a $175 Yale Health fee, for each five-week session. Yale Summer Session states that it cannot offer financial aid to high school students.
Requirements
Pre-college applicants must be current juniors or seniors and at least 16 years old by the time their program starts; sophomores are not eligible. The application asks for a high school transcript, two recommendations from teachers or counselors (one from a current teacher), a U.S. health insurance card and a photo ID, and the 2026 application fee was $80. Test scores are optional, and applications are reviewed holistically with no score cutoffs. For 2026, the priority deadline was February 20, the regular deadline was March 13, and rolling deadlines followed for each session, ending June 5 for online-only Session B courses.
