About
Artslife at the Museum of Arts and Design (MAD) is a paid summer internship in New York City for rising sophomores and juniors who attend NYC public or charter high schools. Each summer the museum accepts 10 interns. The program runs for six weeks and pairs art and design with leadership development, museum studies, and community engagement. It opens with a week of team building. Interns then do hands-on work alongside museum staff and arts professionals and see how a museum operates behind the scenes. Over the summer, interns learn about careers across the museum, make artwork with local and visiting artists, and design and lead tours for other teens. They also practice public speaking and presentation skills and visit other cultural institutions around the city. Interns earn $17 per hour. The program is based at MAD's building at 2 Columbus Circle in Manhattan. Former interns can join MAD's Teen Council, which plans events for teens. Students with questions can contact the museum's education department by email.
Requirements
Open to rising sophomores and juniors enrolled in New York City public or charter high schools. Apply through the online application posted on the museum's teen programs page when the summer cycle opens.
