About

The Brooklyn Museum Museum Apprentice Program is a paid, year-long internship for New York City high school students who want to learn how museums teach the public about art. Apprentices study art and art history and are trained in museum education by the museum's educators and curators. Participants meet artists and curators, discuss topics such as museums and public schools and the role of museums in social justice movements, and learn to teach with artworks. Apprentices help with family programs, develop tours, and teach summer camp groups. The program builds public speaking, lesson planning, research, and teaching skills. Apprentices earn $17 per hour, and second-year apprentices act as program leaders and earn $18 per hour. Participants can work up to 180 hours over the year, and OMNY cards are provided for weekend and summer work. The 2026-27 program runs from November 2026 through August 2027 at the museum in Brooklyn. From November to June, apprentices meet on Thursday evenings from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, with occasional Friday and weekend events. In July and August 2027, they work Wednesdays through Fridays from 10 am to 4 pm.

Requirements

Any New York City high school student can apply. Applicants must commit to the full November 2026 through August 2027 schedule. The museum asks students to check back in June 2027 to apply for the fall 2027 program.
