About

Creative Practice is a paid teen internship at the Brooklyn Museum for New York City high school sophomores, juniors, and seniors interested in art, teaching, and museum work. Interns help teaching artists run art classes for students of all ages through the museum's Studio Art Program. Their duties include setting up studios and supplies, learning how lessons are planned, and practicing classroom management. Interns also meet artists, educators, and museum staff, and work with other teens from across the city on creative projects tied to museum exhibitions. Group discussions explore how art, fashion, and design connect with social justice. The internship pays $17 per hour for up to 120 hours a year, and MetroCards are provided for weekend work. The 2026-27 program runs from September 2026 to June 2027. The schedule includes select Thursday meetings from 4:30 to 6:30 pm, occasional Friday events and field trips, and a weekly three-hour weekend art class each semester (September 26 to December 13, 2026, and early March to mid-May 2027).

Requirements

Open to NYC teens enrolled in high school as a sophomore, junior, or senior at the start of the internship. Interns must commit to the full September 2026 through June 2027 schedule, and the museum recommends the program mainly for teens who have no other extracurricular obligations. The museum says to check back in June 2027 to apply for the fall 2027 program.
