About
The NeuroSurgery Scholars (NSS) Track is a summer track at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai for New York City high school students interested in medicine. It is run by Mount Sinai's Center for Excellence in Youth Education (CEYE), which helps students from grade seven through college prepare for careers in science and health care. NSS is offered in partnership with the Icahn School's Department of Neurosurgery. It is a group mentorship program that includes clinical immersion in neurosurgery. NSS is one of the tracks within CEYE's Internship Placement program. That program is in person and highly competitive. Each day, students work in an internship placement with a mentor from a department in the Mount Sinai Health System. The program takes place at Mount Sinai in Manhattan.
Requirements
Applicants must be rising high school seniors with a minimum GPA of 85 who identify as African-American/Black or Hispanic/Latino male and have a demonstrated interest in science and medicine; prior experience in a health or medical facility is preferred. Participants must attend fully in person, give regular oral and written progress reports, and complete a final written and oral research report. CEYE says all NYC high school students may apply during the official application window. CEYE plans to release information about Summer 2027, including how to apply, in December 2026.
