About
The Memorial Sloan Kettering Summer Student Program (formerly listed as the HOPP Summer Student Program) is a paid summer research internship for high school juniors at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center (MSK) in New York City. Each intern spends eight weeks working in an MSK lab on biomedical or computational research. Interns are matched with a mentor who oversees their work and helps them build technical skills. Over the summer, each student completes an independent project tied to their lab's research goals. Interns also attend professional development events hosted across MSK. The 2027 program runs from June 29 to August 20, 2027. It is a full-time, in-person commitment of 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, on MSK's main campus on Manhattan's Upper East Side. Interns earn a $1,200 stipend, but housing and transportation are not provided. The program takes about 20 interns each summer.
Requirements
Applicants must be current high school juniors living in New York, New Jersey, or Connecticut within 25 miles of the main campus. They also need a 3.5 GPA in science, must be at least 14 by June 2027, must be legally authorized to work in the US, and must commit to the full eight weeks onsite. The application includes short essays, a one-page resume, unofficial transcripts from every high school attended, and two recommendation letters from a STEM teacher, counselor, or research mentor. Applications for 2027 open December 1, 2026, and are due by 8:00 a.m. Eastern on February 5, 2027.
