About

The Work-Based Learning Program is a paid internship at The Metropolitan District (MDC), the water and wastewater utility for the Hartford area. It introduces participants to the many careers inside a water and wastewater utility. Interns are placed in one of five areas: Water Pollution Control (wastewater treatment), Water Treatment (drinking water), Field Operations (maintenance and repair of water and sewer lines), Utility Services (service connections, construction inspection and technical engineering) or Plant Maintenance (electrical and control systems). Interns earn at least $17.00 per hour and can work up to 40 hours per week, depending on student status and eligibility.
