About
The Congressman Jim Himes District Internship is a congressional internship in the Connecticut district offices of U.S. Representative Jim Himes, and it is open to high school students, college students, and recent graduates. Interns work in the Bridgeport and Stamford offices, and the office decides placement based on staffing needs, commute time, and other factors. The office runs internship cohorts in the spring, summer, and fall. The Spring 2027 district cohort runs from January 11, 2027 to May 6, 2027. The summer cohort is very competitive, and for high school students in a school-year cohort, schedules can be arranged around classes. The office offers need-based stipends. Over the summer, the Jack Bryant Connecticut Internship gives one district intern with financial need a $5,400 stipend.
Requirements
Open to high school students, college students, and recent graduates. Applicants from Connecticut's 4th Congressional District get priority, but anyone interested may apply, and strong candidates show interest in politics, government, or American history. High school students who live in the district are encouraged to apply for a school-year cohort. One application covers both offices: submit the online District Office Internship Application Form with a resume, a one-page cover letter, and a 1-3 page writing sample. To be considered for a need-based stipend, add a one-page statement explaining financial need. The application deadline for the Spring 2027 cohort is November 18, 2026, at 3:00 pm Eastern.
