About

The Apollo Theater Academy High School Internship Program is a paid internship at the Apollo Theater in Harlem for New York City high school seniors interested in careers in arts and entertainment. It has two tracks. The Arts Administration Internship introduces students to administrative and programming work at the theater. The Technical Stage Production Internship trains students in lighting design, audio engineering, projection, carpentry, and production design for live shows. Both tracks pay interns $17 per hour. The 2026 Arts Administration internship ran after school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from April 21 to May 21, plus assigned event dates. The 2026 Technical Stage Production internship ran on weekdays from July 13 to August 21, 2026.

Requirements

Applicants must live in one of New York City's five boroughs. The Arts Administration track is open to students in 12th grade, and the Technical Stage Production track to rising seniors entering 12th grade that fall. Interns must attend the full program, and a parent or guardian must attend an orientation. Students apply through an online application that includes an essay, a transcript or report card, and recommendations, followed by group interviews. The 2026 deadlines were March 27 for Arts Administration and June 26, 2026 for the technical track.
