About

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum Teen Ambassador Program is currently paused, according to the National September 11 Memorial & Museum, and is not accepting applications. Students interested in a future cycle can email the museum's ambassador team to ask about updates. When it runs, the program is an in-depth museum learning experience for high school students entering grades 10 through 12. Ambassadors go behind the scenes at the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in New York City, study artifacts from the collection, and examine the themes and issues raised by the September 11 attacks. The group meets in weekly sessions that feature guest speakers, artifact investigations, group discussions, an introduction to museum-education techniques, and public speaking practice. Topics include the events of 9/11, the aftermath of the attacks, the design of the Memorial and Museum, and the rebuilding of the World Trade Center. Using what they learn, ambassadors write their own artifact talks and practice delivering them to many kinds of audiences. The museum is located at 180 Greenwich Street in Lower Manhattan.

Requirements

Open to students entering grades 10 through 12. Ambassadors are expected to attend every weekly session and finish all homework assignments.
