About
Tech Scholars at The New York Historical is a set of free, week-long public history and digital humanities programs for high school students in the New York City area. The programs take place in person at the museum during school breaks. There is no cost to participate. Each program is built around a project that students create themselves, such as a website, a podcast episode, or a small exhibition. Participants research artists, historical figures, and events, work in teams with other teens, build media and curation skills, and meet museum staff to learn about careers in public history and digital humanities. In the Web Design track, students learn HTML and CSS and build websites that tell stories about women in history. In the Podcasting track, teens research a topic, interview an expert or artist, and record and edit an episode of the museum's teen podcast, Through Fresh Eyes. The most recently posted summer sessions ran in July and August.
Requirements
Open to students in grades 9 through 12 who both live and go to school in the New York City metro area, which covers the five boroughs plus parts of New York State, Connecticut, and New Jersey. Students apply for a specific week-long session when applications open. Applications for the most recently posted summer sessions are all closed.
