About

Vermont Adaptive's Apprenticeship Program is a volunteer apprenticeship run by Vermont Adaptive Ski & Sports for high school students ages 14 to 17 who are interested in adaptive sports and working with athletes with disabilities. Apprentices help teach and run the organization's day-to-day programs, which operate year-round for people of all ages and disabilities. Vermont Adaptive can also build special projects around an apprentice's own interests. The program focuses on adaptive sports, therapeutic recreation, wilderness adventure, and adventure recreation. Apprentices may earn high school credit, clinical hours, or community service credit. They also get free skiing and riding, free lift access for mountain biking, and trainings such as First Aid and CPR, Stop the Bleed, and Wilderness First Aid. Apprentices are also expected to set written goals, tour the site, meet regularly with a coordinator, help with a special event, and write a story for the newsletter. The organization is based at Pico Mountain in Killington, Vermont.

Requirements

Open to students ages 14-17. All positions involve both weekday and weekend shifts, and apprentices must attend required trainings, such as snow training in December and summer training in June. To apply, complete the apprenticeship application and an online volunteer application, then send a cover letter and resume to the program coordinator. No application deadline is posted.
