About

The UCLA Health Volunteen Summer Program is an unpaid hospital volunteer program for high school students at UCLA Health's Westwood facilities in Los Angeles. Volunteens get clinical exposure by helping in one of three areas. Patient Transport volunteers help staff discharge and transfer patients, with shifts offered seven days a week between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Wayfinders greet patients and visitors at hospital entrances and give wheelchair and escort help during two-hour weekday shifts. A third role helps deliver patient mail and newspapers during one four-hour weekday shift each week. Each volunteer builds a schedule around their own availability. Free parking is not provided for student volunteers. UCLA Health plans to post Summer 2027 information starting January 1, 2027.

Requirements

Applicants must be at least 16 years old by June 1, show a valid government-issued photo ID, and commit to at least 50 volunteer hours, with all hours finished by August 31. They must provide proof of varicella, MMR and TB immunity plus the latest COVID vaccine or a signed declination in the volunteer portal. Visa holders are accepted only if they are full-time UCLA students on F-1 visas. To apply, students first register for a mandatory Zoom information session, which fills on a first-come basis. Attendees then receive an application by email, submit their forms and health records, and attend one required in-person orientation with no make-up dates.
