About

The U.S. Department of State Pathways Internship Program is a federal internship for U.S. citizen students, open to people enrolled anywhere from high school through graduate school. It has two tracks: the Internship Experience Program (IEP) and the Internship Temporary Program (ITEP). IEP interns hold appointments meant to last for the length of their academic program. ITEP interns take temporary appointments of up to one year and can work during school breaks or year-round. Positions are located across the United States. High school students can qualify for some positions, including entry-level roles for those enrolled in high school or a GED program.

Requirements

Applicants must be U.S. citizens and at least 16 years old by the closing date of the job announcement. They need a cumulative GPA of at least 2.0, must stay enrolled as students during the internship, must be able to obtain a Secret or Top Secret security clearance, and are subject to random drug testing. Openings are posted on USAJobs throughout the year as positions become available, and each posting has its own closing date; applications are due by 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time on that date. Applicants submit a resume, current transcripts (unofficial copies are accepted at first), and proof of enrollment showing a projected graduation date.
