About
The Sharp Chula Vista Junior Volunteer program is a hospital volunteer program for high school students in grades 9 through 11 at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center in Chula Vista, California. The hospital lists career exploration for high school students among the benefits of volunteering there. Junior volunteers work one in-person shift per week lasting two to four hours. Volunteers receive a $7 meal voucher while on duty. The hospital describes the program as competitive. Onboarding can take up to three months and includes orientation and training.
Requirements
Applicants must be at least 14 years old, have finished 8th grade, and hold a GPA of at least 3.0. Seniors are not accepted because the role requires a commitment of at least one year, volunteering one 2-4 hour shift per week. To apply, students submit an online application, then send a transcript and a parental consent form when asked. Applicants name two teachers as references, and at least one teacher evaluation is required. Selected applicants interview virtually over Microsoft Teams. The 2026 application window runs October 1 to November 12, 2026, and applications are due by 6 p.m. on November 12, 2026. Teacher evaluations are due December 11, 2026, and results are emailed by January 31, 2027. Accepted volunteers must complete health clearance (MMR, varicella, Tdap, COVID and flu vaccination or declination, and TB testing) and buy a uniform.
