About

The NYC Mayor's Office Internship Program is a paid internship in New York City government for high school, college, and graduate students. Interns join a single Mayor's Office department of their choice and stay there for the full internship. Typical projects include research, data analysis, drafting briefings, handling inquiries, staffing events, and outreach. Interns also attend a bi-weekly Speaker Series at City Hall with Deputy Mayors, Commissioners, and other senior staff, and they work together on a service project with NYC Service. High school students earn $17 per hour. The program has two terms: a summer term from June to August and a fall/spring term from October to April. The 2026 Fall to 2027 Spring term runs October 19, 2026 to April 9, 2027. Housing is not provided.

Requirements

High school applicants must be at least 16, hold current working papers (employment certification) at the time of application, and be enrolled in high school. Summer applicants may also be students already accepted to college, and summer has no residency requirement. Fall/spring high school applicants must live in New York City. Applications are accepted only online during posted application periods, and students may apply to several departments with a separate application for each. Selected candidates are interviewed. The application period for the 2026 Fall to 2027 Spring term closed August 23, 2026.
