About

The 8th Judicial District High School and College Internship Program is an unpaid summer internship run by the New York State Unified Court System for high school students age 16 and older and college undergraduates. The district covers Allegany, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming counties. Interns work in person, Monday through Thursday from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Students must commit to at least 24 hours per week for the three weeks of the internship. During the program, interns learn about careers in the court system by working alongside judges, judicial chambers staff and non-judicial court professionals. Interns also take part in professional development programs. The internship is a volunteer position with no pay or other compensation, and interns cover their own transportation and parking costs. Students may be able to arrange stipends or school credit through their referring school or a community organization. Space is limited.

Requirements

High school students must be at least 16 years old (college undergraduates at least 18). Apply online with a cover letter, resume and signed Consent to Volunteer form. Some applicants may be invited to an in-person interview. Acceptance is at the discretion of the 8th Judicial District Administrative Judge. The court says to check back in February 2027 for the next cycle.
