About

The NYC DCAS High School Automotive Internship Program is a paid summer internship for students at participating New York City public Career and Technical Education (CTE) automotive high schools. It is run by the NYC Department of Citywide Administrative Services (DCAS) in partnership with the NYC Department of Education. Interns work on City vehicles and learn from the fleet professionals who keep them running. Each summer, students are placed with City agencies such as the NYPD, FDNY, the Department of Transportation, the Department of Sanitation, and DCAS itself. The internship begins in early July and lasts six weeks or about 150 hours. Interns get hands-on practice diagnosing equipment, doing basic maintenance, using automotive shop tools, and learning how fleet and claims management work. The program is designed to help students prepare for careers in the automotive industry. Interns are paid for their work.

Requirements

Open to students at participating NYC DOE Career and Technical Education automotive high schools (Alfred E. Smith CTE HS, A-Tech, Aviation CTE HS, Co-Op Tech, Ralph McKee CTE HS, Thomas Edison CTE HS, Tottenville HS, Transit Tech CTE HS, William E. Grady CTE HS). DCAS does not post a public student application or deadline; students should ask their school's CTE/automotive program staff how to be considered.
