About

NASA Office of STEM Engagement (OSTEM) Internships are paid, project-based internships at NASA centers across the United States, open to high school seniors for the summer after they graduate. Interns work on real NASA projects and agency missions with guidance from NASA mentors, building technical and professional skills. Both STEM and non-STEM students can apply. Summer sessions last 10 weeks, and fall and spring sessions last 15 weeks; recent high school graduates are eligible only for the summer session. Typical hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, unless a project says otherwise. Most interns receive a stipend based on academic level and session length. At most centers, interns need a car unless they find housing within walking distance.

Requirements

High school seniors can apply for the summer session immediately after their graduation. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, have a GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, and be 18 or older by the published start date of the session. Students apply through the NASA STEM Gateway and can apply to several opportunities with one profile. Letters of recommendation are not part of the application.
