About
The High School Student Internship Program in Integrated Mathematical Oncology (HIP IMO) is a summer research internship at Moffitt Cancer Center for high school students who are at least 16 years old. Interns work under faculty and scientist mentors in Moffitt's Integrated Mathematical Oncology Department. Each student carries out an individual research project matched to their interests and abilities. Along the way, interns join scheduled lab meetings, document their results, and review findings with their mentors. The program ends with a 15-minute presentation at the HIP IMO research day and a three-page scientific report. The 2026 program ran for eight weeks, from June 8 to July 31, 2026. Interns attend in person on weekdays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Stabile Research Building on Moffitt's campus at the University of South Florida in Tampa, Florida. Moffitt provides the computer equipment and software interns need. Selected students receive a $1,000 scholarship, but the program cannot fund housing.
Requirements
Applicants must be 16 by the program start date and enrolled in grade 11 or below, so graduating seniors are not eligible, and students on H4 visas cannot be accepted. Interns must attend in person for the full eight weeks. Apply through Moffitt's online application portal with recommendation letters. Accepted interns must complete a drug screening, background check and TB test, as well as orientations. For the 2026 cycle, applications were reviewed on a rolling basis, with final materials due before February 1, 2026.
