About
The MassCEC Construction, Installation, and Maintenance Program, formerly the Vocational Internship Program (VIP), places Massachusetts vocational and technical high school students in paid clean energy jobs. It is run by the Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) and is now part of the agency's Clean Energy Internship Program. Placements last the whole school year and continue into the following summer. The current session started August 31, 2026 and ends August 31, 2027. Interns work for clean energy employers in Massachusetts and earn at least $15 an hour.
Requirements
Open to juniors and seniors at a Massachusetts vocational or technical high school, along with After Dark students, Career Technical Initiative (CTI) participants, and recent graduates of those programs. High school students must also meet their own school's co-op requirements, such as grades, attendance, or OSHA certification. Existing employees, or interns who have been on a host employer's payroll for more than six weeks, are not eligible. To apply, a high school student asks their co-op coordinator to create an account in MassCEC's internship portal; employers then review student profiles, MassCEC confirms eligibility, and the student signs an offer letter. There is no formal application deadline and students can apply at any time, but MassCEC recommends applying early to improve the chance of a match.
