About
The Tufts University Biomedical Engineering Research Scholars (TUBERS) Program is a paid summer research internship in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts, for high school students. Students work in biomedical engineering labs on research that investigates biomedical questions and develops new ways to study cells, tissues and organs, learning experimental protocols and testing hypotheses with guidance from mentors. The program is free and pays students $17 per hour. It is full time, at 35 hours per week for six weeks, and runs in person on the Medford campus from July 6 to August 13, 2027. Students arrange their own transportation, and no housing is provided. Interns present their findings and, with approval, may enter their projects in science competitions.
Requirements
Applicants must be at least 16 and attend, or have graduated within the past two calendar years from, a Massachusetts vocational technical high school, a public high school in a Gateway City, or a public high school where at least 25 percent of students are classified as low income, or be enrolled in the METCO Program. Recent graduates enrolled in college are not eligible. Students apply to the Massachusetts Life Sciences Center's High School Apprenticeship Challenge, mention TUBERS in their cover letter, and then email a TUBERS information form and supplemental documents to the program.
