About
The GO Project's GO Getter Summer Internship is a five-week classroom internship in New York City for high school students who want to build leadership skills while helping younger children learn. The GO Project is a nonprofit that supports New York City public school students through year-round academic, social-emotional, and family support, and GO Getters work inside its GO Summer program. Interns are placed in one of the program's kindergarten through 7th grade classrooms, where they support instruction under the guidance of a Head Teacher and an Enrichment Teacher, working with students in academic and enrichment classes. Interns also take part in weekly professional development sessions focused on education equity. In 2026, GO Summer ran from July 6 to August 7, with virtual training in June and a mandatory in-person orientation on July 1 and 2. Daily hours were either 9 AM to 2 PM or 11 AM to 4:30 PM, depending on the grade assignment. The internship is in person at partner school sites in Manhattan and Brooklyn, including Grace Church School, St. Luke's School, Berkeley Carroll, and Packer Collegiate. The role is generally unpaid: every GO Getter can receive community service hours or school credit, and interns who were once GO Project students and can show financial need may be eligible for a stipend.
Requirements
Open to high school students in good academic standing who are rising 10th, 11th, or 12th graders or recent high school graduates (the 2026 cycle accepted 2026 graduates). Applicants complete an online application form with two references, and finalists attend a group interview. Accepted interns must submit a medical clearance form and pass a background check before training.
