About

The Forsyth Student Scholars Summer Internship Program is a paid summer research internship at the ADA Forsyth Institute for high school students in the Boston area. Started in 1993, it places teens in working laboratories alongside Forsyth scientists. Scholars are matched with researchers in microbiology, craniofacial biology, or inflammation and immunology, and they carry out their own hands-on research project. Along the way they give weekly presentations to mentors and peers and attend college-level lectures by Forsyth scientists. The summer ends with a scientific poster presentation to the Boston-area research community. The internship is in person at Forsyth's headquarters in Somerville, Massachusetts, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., 35 hours per week. Interns earn minimum wage and receive a transportation pass. The 2026 program ran June 29 to August 21.

Requirements

Students must be in 9th, 10th or 11th grade when they apply and attend school in Eastern Massachusetts or the Boston area. Applicants should show a real interest in a career in STEM or the oral health professions and commit to the full in-person program. Apply online with a resume, transcript, short answer responses and at least one reference letter from a teacher, counselor or coach; some candidates are invited to a virtual interview. 2026 applications were due April 1.
