About

The Dana-Farber Student Training Program, run by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute's Office of Workforce Development, is a paid health care internship for young people from the Boston public school system. Students intern in a department at the Boston cancer hospital that fits their interests. The program has a summer track and a school-year track. Summer Jobs Program interns work 30 hours a week for seven weeks after an all-day orientation. They also take part in weekly college and career readiness workshops and go on college tours. School-year interns in the Academic-Year Internship work 8 to 15 hours a week from October to June. They attend workshops and field trips twice a month and return for the following summer. All positions are paid, and graduating seniors can apply for scholarship funding. Mentorship and student retreats are also part of the program. Since 2007, the program has served more than 190 summer students and 70 school-year students.

Requirements

Open to young people from the Boston public school system. Summer Jobs Program interns are hired through Dana-Farber's school and community partners. They must attend an all-day orientation, work 30 hours a week for 7 weeks, and join weekly college and career readiness workshops and college tours. The Academic-Year Internship is open only to students who finish the summer program and want careers in clinical work, research or health administration. Dana-Farber does not post a public application or deadline for the high school tracks; students apply through a partner school or community organization.
