About
The Boston Private Industry Council (PIC) Summer Internship Program is a paid summer jobs program in Boston, Massachusetts, for Boston Public Schools high school students. Run with the City of Boston, Boston Public Schools and local employers as part of the Mayor's Summer Jobs Program, it places students in jobs and internships at more than 200 companies and institutions in fields such as health care, financial services, life sciences, technology, architecture and law. Placements are with Boston employers and last six to seven weeks in July and August, Monday through Friday. Interns work 25 to 40 hours per week, and pay ranges from $15 to $18 per hour depending on the employer. PIC career specialists help students with resumes, applications and interview preparation.
Requirements
Students must be in grades 9 to 12 at a Boston Public School, be 16 by July 1, 2027, and be authorized to work in the United States. Some hospital internships have an earlier age cutoff. Applicants submit a PIC application, and some health care and law employers also ask for one or two teacher recommendations, a recent report card or transcript, and an essay or personal statement. PIC career specialists schedule interviews, which may be in person or virtual. Hired students need an unexpired photo ID and a signed Social Security card, and some work sites require proof of COVID-19 vaccination.
