About
Seed Crew is a paid summer job from The Food Project for Massachusetts high school students ages 14 to 17 who want hands-on experience in farming and food justice. It is the first program young people join at The Food Project. Each summer the organization hires 72 teens from a mix of racial, economic, gender identity and geographic backgrounds. Crew members work on urban and suburban farms in Boston, Lincoln, Lynn and Wenham. The program lasts six weeks. Mornings are spent growing vegetables with staff and helping distribute thousands of pounds of produce. Most afternoons are workshops on topics such as sustainable agriculture, food access and social justice. Along the way, teens build leadership, teamwork, workplace and civic skills. Seed Crew members work about 28 to 32 hours a week. In the most recent posting, pay was $15.50 per hour.
Requirements
Ages 14 to 17; students must be 14 by June 1 and have finished 8th grade by July 1. Participants must be available every day of the six-week program. Applicants submit an application with a recommendation letter from an adult who is not a family member, and selected applicants are invited to interview. The Food Project invites students interested in summer 2027 to sign up for its newsletter for updates.
