About
The Fermilab Program for Research, Innovation, and STEM Mentorship (PRISM) is a four-week paid summer program at Fermi National Accelerator Laboratory in Batavia, Illinois, for high school seniors and recent graduates. Each week centers on a different scientific theme: particle physics, quantum science, engineering design and artificial intelligence. Students learn through hands-on activities and lectures and tour the laboratory's research facilities as they explore future study and career paths. The schedule mixes on-site and off-site work. Students earn $500 a week, and transportation assistance is available. Fermilab does not provide housing for high school interns. The 2027 program runs July 12 to August 6, 2027.
Requirements
Students who will be high school seniors in the 2027-2028 school year or who graduate from high school in 2027 can apply if they are enrolled in an Illinois high school. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and show proof of medical insurance. There are no course prerequisites. Applicants submit an online application, a supplemental questionnaire, a list of the STEM courses they have taken and a letter of recommendation from a STEM teacher or STEM club advisor, due by the application close date. Applications for 2027 are accepted from January 12 to March 1, 2027; offers go out April 12, and accepted students must respond by April 21, 2027.
