About
The Exelon Foundation STEM Academy is a free, week-long summer leadership program for young women in high school who want to explore energy, sustainability, and climate change. It is open to girls in 10th or 11th grade, and each academy serves its own region. In 2026, academies ran in Chicago at DePaul University (June 21 to 26), in Baltimore at UMBC (July 19 to 24), at the University of Maryland, College Park for the Washington, D.C. area (July 26 to 31), and in Philadelphia at Saint Joseph's University (August 2 to 7). The program is residential, and students stay on campus from Sunday through Friday. There is no cost to attend, and lodging and meals are provided. Each participant receives an iPad to keep. During the week, students do hands-on energy activities, take field trips, meet women working in STEM and energy careers, build professional skills, and compete with peers in a team energy challenge. Admission is competitive.
Requirements
Open to young women currently in 10th or 11th grade who live in an eligible Exelon utility service area for their regional academy. Past participants and children of Exelon Key Managers and above are not eligible. Students must stay on campus for the full week. Apply online with essays, which must be written without AI tools, and one teacher or mentor reference.
