About

Volunteer at Denver Health is an ongoing hospital volunteer program at Denver Health in Denver, Colorado, open to teens and adults who are at least 16 years old. Volunteers support patients, families and visitors with comfort and companionship, but they do not take part in clinical care. Many new volunteers start in the Pathfinder Program, which has four roles: Outpatient Medical Center Pathfinder, Rounder, Cozy Cart and Floater. Rounders visit inpatient rooms for conversation, walks and games, while Pathfinders help guide patients to appointments at the Outpatient Medical Center. The role is unpaid and in person. There is a one-time $20 fee for the volunteer polo shirt.

Requirements

Volunteers must be 16 or older, and ongoing roles require a commitment of 6 months or 100 hours. Applicants submit an online volunteer application, complete eLearning modules and paperwork, attend a virtual interview and finish a medical screening. Required immunizations include MMR, varicella, hepatitis B, Tdap (within 10 years), a seasonal flu shot and a negative TB test from the past year. A background check is required only for applicants 18 and older. Onboarding must be completed within 3 months of applying and can take a month or longer. Denver Health does not list a fixed application deadline.
