About
The Delaware Academy of Medicine and Public Health Student Internship is a virtual public health internship for Delaware high school students in grades 10 through 12. The Academy runs three internship cohorts each year. The Spring 2027 cohort runs from January to April, and the Summer 2027 cohort runs from May to August. The high school internship is fully online, and the schedule is set around each student's other commitments. Interns learn to describe a public health problem, find public health data sources and spot gaps in them, and analyze qualitative and quantitative data. They also apply public health theory, build a program logic model, and present their findings in writing. Past intern topics include health literacy, food insecurity, concussions, rural health, and sleep in high school students. The Academy also offers a separate internship track for college and graduate students.
Requirements
Open to Delaware residents currently enrolled in grades 10-12 at a Delaware high school. Applicants meet with the Academy's internship coordinator to talk through the position, its requirements, and the expected deliverables. Applications for the Spring 2027 cohort open November 1, and applications for the Summer 2027 cohort open March 1.
