About

The Artpace Teen Council is a paid, nine-month leadership program for San Antonio area high school students ages 15 to 18 who want to get involved with contemporary art. It is run by Artpace, a nonprofit art space in downtown San Antonio. Council members work alongside Artpace staff and artists to plan teen programs, help out at Artpace events, and create free community projects for other teens. The council also hosts free teen-only events such as artist-led workshops and talks. Members meet in person at Artpace every Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m., except on school holidays. The commitment lasts one school year, from September through May.

Requirements

Students must be 15 to 18 years old, live in Bexar County, and have their own way to get to Artpace, such as a ride, the bus, or a bike. Members must attend weekly Thursday meetings from 5-7 p.m. and commit for the full school year (September-May). Rising sophomores and juniors are encouraged to apply. Apply through the online application or by email to the Artpace education team, which also answers questions. Applications typically open April 1, with finalist interviews in June and July and acceptance emails in early August.
