About

The Arkansas Children's Job Shadowing Program for high school students lets teens ages 16 and older observe health care professionals at Arkansas Children's. The program pairs an online training course with a short in-person shadowing experience. Students can choose to shadow at the Little Rock campus or the Northwest Arkansas campus. Shadowing is arranged for one day and can extend to a maximum of three days. Students pick the area they want to explore: nursing or occupational and physical therapy, physicians, or research. The hospital tries to match each student to their chosen area but cannot guarantee a specific department. Participants observe only and do not provide direct patient care. High school students are not placed in operating rooms or intensive care units.

Requirements

Must be at least 16 years old. Students may request one shadowing opportunity per year. Apply through the online form at least 4 weeks before the requested shadow date and choose two preferred date ranges. The application asks for parent or guardian contact information and the student's school and grade level. Applicants must upload immunization records, including flu, Tdap within 10 years, a TB skin test within the past year, MMR, and chickenpox history or varicella vaccine, along with signed Safety Review, Shadow Orientation, and Confidentiality Agreement forms.
