About
The Writopia Lab High School Summer Internships let high school students who already write with Writopia Lab volunteer as helpers in creative writing workshops for young children. Writopia Lab is a nonprofit founded in New York City in 2007 that runs writing workshops for kids and teens. High school interns work alongside instructors in workshops for writers ages 6 to 10. They act as role models and offer editorial and practical support, such as typing up stories and brainstorming plot ideas, along with encouragement for the young writers. The internship is an unpaid volunteer role, and Writopia Lab will sign off on hours for school volunteer or community service requirements. Interns must attend a one-hour training before starting. They commit to at least two week-long summer workshops or one weekly workshop that lasts a full trimester.
Requirements
Students must be at least 15 when the internship begins and must have completed a Writopia Lab 15-hour workshop within the past calendar year; trimester, school break, and summer workshops all count. Students who have never taken a Writopia Lab workshop need to enroll in one first. Students apply through an online form, and placements depend on availability and enrollment. Writopia also offers school-year internships.
