About

The University of Nebraska Omaha (UNO) High School Internship Program is a summer lab internship run by UNO's College of Information Science & Technology for high school students in the Omaha area. Interns work with faculty and college students in labs covering topics such as robotics, bioinformatics, software engineering, cybersecurity, web development, mobile app development, and game design. Students are picked based on what individual faculty research labs need. The 2025 program ran for six weeks, from June 2 to July 11, 2025. Interns spent 20 hours a week on campus, scheduled on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. They gave a formal mid-internship report and a final presentation, and attendance at those sessions was required.

Requirements

Open to high school students from participating school districts who are interested in math, science, performing arts, or computer science. Applicants must be at least 16 when they apply, be entering 10th, 11th, or 12th grade in the fall, have consent from a parent or guardian, and have their own reliable ride to UNO each day. To apply, students submit the online application and an unofficial transcript. Selected applicants are invited to an interview, held in person or over Zoom.
