About
HighTech Bound is a paid summer internship at the University of New Hampshire InterOperability Laboratory (UNH-IOL) for high school students who are rising seniors and interested in technology careers. Interns spend four to six weeks working in the lab's computer facility in Durham, New Hampshire, where they gain hands-on experience with network technologies. Students work in teams with dedicated mentors to build a solution for an assigned project, and they also work one-on-one with IOL engineers. The schedule is Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and interns are paid an hourly wage. The lab supplies all the equipment, so no laptop is needed. Interns typically visit local technology companies to learn about possible career paths. Participants can also earn half a high school credit through the Virtual Learning Academy Charter School (VLACS). The 2026 program ran July 6 to August 7, and housing was not provided that year.
Requirements
Open to high school students who have just finished junior year (rising seniors) and are interested in technology. Applicants must be U.S. residents; students from any state, not just New England, may apply. Submit a complete application that includes an essay and a list of your top three college choices; incomplete applications are not reviewed. The 2026 application was open January 5 through February 28. The 2027 application opens January 1, 2027.
