About

The BME High School Internship Program at the University of Minnesota is a paid summer research internship in biomedical engineering for students heading into their senior year of high school. It is run by the Department of Biomedical Engineering (BME) in the College of Science and Engineering. The program lasts six weeks. Interns do hands-on research with guidance from a biomedical engineering graduate student. They also tour research labs, including the Visible Heart Lab, explore biology and engineering careers, and build skills such as scientific writing and communication. The summer ends with a poster session where interns share their work with family and friends. Interns receive a stipend, and bus transportation is provided. Faculty may write letters of recommendation for participants. The program did not accept applications for Summer 2026.
