About

Teens in Health research programs are free science research and writing opportunities for high school students, run by Teens in Health, a teen-led 501(c)(3) nonprofit focused on scientific research and medical advocacy. Its main research offering is the Research Fellowship, a year-long biomedical research program for high school students living in the United States. The 2026-27 fellowship training runs from September 2026 to April 2027 and is taught remotely. Fellows meet live on Sundays from 4:00 to 6:00 PM Pacific time and spend about four hours a week on the program. The training covers 22 modules, including lab techniques, experimental design, statistics, literature analysis and science communication. In spring, fellows may be matched with a partner lab near them for a summer 2027 research placement of roughly four to eight weeks, though placements are not guaranteed. Teens in Health also runs a Summer Program, usually June through August, and a Spring Program, usually February through April, where students write research papers that are published on the organization's website. All Teens in Health programs are free, and fellows are not paid.

Requirements

Open to high school students; no prior research experience is needed. Research Fellowship applicants must live in the United States and should ideally be 16 or older by June for an in-person lab spot. Apply through the online application form when applications are open.
